How to Practice
As with most skills, the
more you practice, the better you become.
With magic, you have to practice every trick
that you will perform. While there is no
way to get out of the practice, you can
make it more efficient and productive. To
do so follow these steps.
1. Read the instructions,
including the effect
2. Try performing the trick
while reading the instructions
3. Erupt steps one and
two until you can perform. the trick without
reading the instructions
4. If applicable, write
out dialog for your trick
5. Now perform. the trick
without reading the instructions and adding
your own dialog if applicable
6. Perform. the trick in
front of a mirror until you can see no mistakes
7. Perform. the trick just
like you will in front of the audience until
you mater it
8. Perform. the trick for
a close family member or friend
Step number eight is all
important. This person is your test. Try
using the same person all the time Ask the
person what they thought of the trick. They
should tell you if they liked the trick,
including your dialog. Change the trick
according to all good advice. To further
ensure flawless performance practice the
trick at random times. Leave the props inside
your home and practice the trick when you
pass it. Make sure to do this as much as
possible before the performance Also remember
that dialog and/or your visual actions are
what make the trick. Good dialog can be
essential to even make the trick work. Some
tricks may be better performed silent, in
that case the magician should use good acting.
Dialog and acting will be explained in the
next section, for now know that they are
very important. Now that you know all about
