The Opener
This action will be the
first thing the audience will see, setting
the mood for the rest of the show. Not only
an introduction of yourself, it can also
set the theme for the show. Theme can be
a category in magic, like card tricks, or
it can be a story that binds the tricks
together. David Copperfield, for example,
opens one of his shows, Dreams and Nightmares,
by explaining that he dreamed as a child,
especially about flying. The most of the
show is about dreams or his childhood, but
the tricks themselves are of a wide variety.
Your show could also contain no story, just
tricks from the same category, also known
as genres. In this case it would probably
be best to open with an introduction of
yourself followed by an opening trick.
