Interview with LeAnna about her play, "Cleopatra's Conquest"
| Q: | Why did you decide to write a play? |
| A: | I though it was the best way to approach an important event in Cleopatra's life--and in the history of her nation.
| Q: | How did you decide which event in her life to write about? |
| A: | It was actually a suggestion made by my writing coach, Miss Hinman. She had studied Shakespeare's play, Antony and Cleopatra. She mentioned the earlier meeting between Caesar and Cleopatra as a turning point in history.
| Q: | What did you like about writing a historical play? |
| A: | I liked being able to think that I can educate people by doing something I enjoy.
| Q: | What was the most difficult part of writing this play? |
| A: | The hardest part is making sure that all of the information is
correct
| Q: | What helped you write the play? |
| A: | Just reading books and stories that others have written helped. Historians have been able to give the exact dates and names of many of the people involved. Events such as the temper tantrum by Cleopatra's brother have been described by historians.
| Q: | Which books helped the most? |
| A: | I think the books with the most detail helped the most. Plutarch described her personality. My play was created after reading a section of four biographies.
| Q: | How long did it take to write the play, "Cleopatra's Conquest"? |
| A: | It took about a month to write the play. Then, I set it aside for several weeks. Miss Hinman and I met to discuss ideas for revised it. The revision was done in three coaching sessions.
| Q: | What do you hope will be done with this play? |
| A: | I think it would be amazing if it was used in classrooms around the world and maybe even performed. |
