Here is the same face as on the previous photo taken by
the Mars Global Surveyor with a much better camera on April 5, 1998 from a
height of 440 km above Mars. One can observe that the first photo was only
an optical illusion created by atmospheric conditions |

The Mars Global Surveyor
took this shot on April 26, 1998 and clearly shows two sets of traces on
Mars's surface (arrow). The traces are 15 meters wide and stretch out over
several km. These traces were not made by living beings but by so called
"dust devils". This phenomenon is due to local meteorological
occurrences namely something resembling mini-tornadoes that through
heating and spiral spinning of air, build up on the surface of dry regions.
