Scattering & Spectrum

Before continue studying this chapter, first we are going to explain certain definitions and concepts necesary for understand these topics. Talking about the light, as we had seen the light is a wave and it's velocity is constant and equal to 3x10^8 m/s.

How the light is a wave, let's talk about waves: Everybody has a basic idea of what a wave is, but can't define it. A wave is a perturbation an ambient (generally elastic), trough it the wave transmite itself with certain frecuency, and wavelength. The light is an electromagnetic wave, so it is a perturbation of electromagnetic character.

Mainly awave have 3 magnitudes: period, frecuency and wavelenght.

Period (T): It's the time that a wave delay for go over the length of one wavelenght. It's unit is the second.

Wavelength (l): It's the distance between two points that are in concordant to the phase of the wave. Its unit is the meter.

frecuency (f): It's the inverse of the period (1/T). Its unit is the hertz.
