Our Project

Our global objective was to provide a place where a user of any age and knowledge level could learn about the heart and have some fun with it. It is surprising how little people really know about the heart, whose structure and function are so amazing and vital to our lives. Our most important objective is to provide an extensive scientific background about the heart. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in developed countries. Most of this disease can be controlled or even prevented by some simple changes in lifestyle. Another educational objective was to provide information about heart disease and how to prevent it.

Collaboration

The site was created in a three month collaborative effort during the Summer of 2000. Though all three members had small vacations and other important events (like tennis tournaments and college entrance exams) almost every spare minute was spent working on the website. Ashot and Justin spent many nights over at each other's houses working out the site design and layout. Collaboration with Sergei was not as easy since there was an ocean in the way, but nearly daily e-mail updates were usually sufficient in staying on the same level.

Member contributions

Serguei wrote all of the scripts for the website. He also contributed to some of the disease and research sections.
Ashot created the structure for the website (menu, links, glossary, sitemap) and created all of the media for the site (graphics, flash animations, etc..). He also contributed to some of the structure, function, and disease sections.
Justin is a very good writer. He has always excelled at writing in school and has even won several essay contests in Texas. Justin wrote most of the content for the site.
