| Galileo was an energetic scientist who improved the telescope, built a thermoscope, and obtained a patent for a machine to raise water levels. Soon after the invention of the telescope he began to observe and study sunspots and took up the Copernican theory. In 1632 Galileo was forced to resign from his theories by the Holy Office. | |
