When the gods were doing battle with the giants the evil monster-god, Typhon, had defeated Zeus (Jupiter), king of the gods, and cut out the tendons from his feet and hands, making him unable to move. Typhon had hidden the tendons in a cave an guarded them, but the god Ageipan, who earlier escaped Typhon by jumping in the water and turning into half fish, half goat, managed to steal them and return them to Zeus. Zeus later killed Typhon by throwing thunderbolts at him. For his good deeds Ageipan was given a place in the sky as the constellation Capricornus.
