The winter monsoon’s characteristics include:

  • The area of maximum heating moves south to Indonesia.
  • The ITCZ moves south.
  • Jet streams go back to their winter locations. One jet stream is split by the high-elevation Tibetan plateau and streams eastward above China.
  • Low-pressure cyclones migrate into the Pacific Ocean.
