It was during a vacation in north carolina in august through the end of september of 1989, Before my wife and I went, I observed gabbriell, the hurricane before hugo. I remember telling my dad, that I didn't want to go. He gave me hell and said I was crazy to turn down a vacation and that my brother drove 600 miles to take my wife and I down to crouse north carolina. I told dad that we would get a hurricane and bee in it. He said I was nuts. and it wouldn't happen. well it did. I listened to the news the day I arived in north carolina, gabbriell had disipated over the maritimes afiew days later, we would have a lot more to worry about. and afiew days after that, the big one. we would have three storms form behind each other hugo, irus, and carrin. carrin and irus died quick. but hugo, a different story, the monster storm that would smash into charleston south carolina with a furrosity that was unmatched by anything that carolinians have seen in quite a while. the carolinians and my wife, brother, and x sister inlaw. will never forget. I remember it as clear as day. the storm would change people's preception of hurricanes. I tracked the storm from the african coast. It was a cad 2 winds 105 for about 3 days. on the 21 of september it became class 3 page on. to bee continued steadily growing in strength and expantion. the I was getting more and more organized. 110 mph, 120 mph, and by land fall winds were clocked at 144 mph.
