The ancient Greeks believed that Zeus, king of gods, hurled thunderbolts down from storming skies. His lightning bolts were hammered out by the metalworking god, Hephaestus. The Vikings believed that Thor, the god of weather, struck an enormous hammer against an anvil to create a storm’s thunder and lightning. Native Americans believed lightning came from the bright feathers of the Thunderbird, who flapping wings were also responsible for thunder. No matter what culture, people of every nation have witnessed the power and majesty of the awesome thunderstorm.
