Who
are the Chinese
The Chinese are people whose history goes back to 5000
years ago. The earliest records of the people from the
central plains indicated that the Chinese were worshippers
of animals and plants and considered them blood relations
and protectors. One of the most famous totem of the Chinese
is the dragon.
It was a combination of various clans' animals with its
deer antlers, eagle claws, beard and scales. This divine
and mythical animal was believed to have the powers to
produce cloud and make rain, thereby influencing the crops
and people's livelihood.
The
Chinese refer themselves as " sons of the yellow Emperor"
Names that are used to denote the Chinese are Zhong
Guo Ren(people in china) , Hua
Qiao(overseas Chinese), and
Tang
Ren. Zhong Guo(middle kingdom) was the first
name used 3000 years ago for the areas around the capital--Beijing
and where the Han people lived since the mid 1800s.
Today Chinese people live all over the world, hold different
nationalities, and of various religions. Even so, they
are all "descendants of the dragon".
