4) Surname: Among all the surnames, Chen was the most popular one

5) What do you know about Chinese Surnames?
From the people surveyed, they said that only the rich and powerful have surnames in the past, surnames were inherited and were according to the dialect group, people from different parts of china have different surnames. One of them said that during some dynasties, emperors could give the people whatever surname they wanted. Most of them said the first surname is ŒZhao¹ in the book ŒBai Jia Xing¹ and majority knew nothing about it.

6)What do you think is the meaning of Chinese Surnames?
Some said that people of the same surnames share the same ancestors and is a resemblance of family bond. It indicates family history. One of them said that in olden China, the people of different of different clans have one common surname and by hearing the surname, you can know where the person comes from and arrangement of the importance of surname e.g ŒZhao¹ is the surname of the king

7.How do you think Chinese Surnames affect our lives ?
Some said that it helps us find our roots but most of them think that that it does not affect their lives at all.

More history come from generation to generation.
