Synopsis: In the art and expressive scenario, students will portray the aspects of the Holocaust through creative means. The scenario consists of seven sub scenarios: writing a piece of music, illustrating degenerate art, depicting the sculpture during the Holocaust, showing the architecture, making Nazi style propaganda through posters, creating a photo album based on life during the 30s in Nazi Germany, and writing short stories and poems expressing emotions felt during the Holocaust.
Sub scenario:
Writing Short Stories/Poems
Imagine
that you are writer/poet during the Holocaust. Your goal is to portray
the social history during the Holocaust.
I. Objectives
Research
must be conducted on background information the literature during the Holocaust
and presented in class. Students may choose various ways to present
the information using any visual items such as Microsoft Power Point, posters,
diagrams, etc. It is not required to have the presentation or any
visuals used in the presentation “auf Deutsch.”
After researching
the St. Louis, students may begin composing drafts and brainstorming outlines
“auf Deutsch” to prepare the literary work.
In your
scenario-
You may
write a complete short story (does not have to be “auf Deutsch) based on
short stories written during the Holocaust including a title and prose.
The short story should give insight on the Holocaust by describing events
and places.
Write a
paper “auf Deutsch” about your motivations and inspiration to write the
short story during the Holocaust.
OR
You may imagine
that you are a victim of the Holocaust hiding from Nazis. Because
you are a poet, you choose to write a poem.
The poem
should describe the different aspects and give insight into the Holocaust.
The shape
and form of the poem is your choice. (i.e. sonnett, haiku, etc.)
Write a
paper “auf Deutsch” about your choice of words, sounds, and rhythm in the
poem. Your choice should reflect the emotions during the Holocaust.
II. Tips
Creativity
and accuracy are important throughout this scenario.
Research
must be done before working on the literary work
Various
drafts are required to show student’s progress at different stages of the
project.
A presentation
of your material and research must be presented in class.
Everything
needs to be typed.
Remember
to use correct sentence structures, vocabulary, tenses, and grammar while
writing “auf Deutsch.”
Note: You
are only required to choose either writing a short story or a poem (Not
Both).
You must
follow the guidelines of the literary work that you choose to do.
III. Grading
All brainstorming,
drafts, and papers must be done “auf Deutsch” with an English translation.
Fifteen points will be deducted from a hundred point grading scale if work
(excluding presentation prior to writing, short story, and poem) is done
in English only.
