Zeit Kapsel Projekt: Resistance

Synopsis: In the Resistance scenario, students will engage in political campaigning through  flyers, posters, cartoons, correspondence, and newpapers.



I. Flyers Based on Die Weiße Rose sub scenario:
Imagine that you are a member of Die Weiße Rose during the Holocaust.  Your goal is to create flyers and propaganda to discourage Nazism.

Objectives:
Research must be conducted on background information about Die Weiße Rose and presented in class.  Students may choose various ways to present the information using any visual items such as Microsoft Power Point, posters, diagrams, etc.  It is not required to have the presentation or any visuals used in the presentation “auf Deutsch.”
After researching Die Weiße Rose, students may begin composing drafts and brainstorming outlines “auf Deutsch” to prepare their work.



II. Posters and cartoons subscenario:
Cartoons and posters must represent the political, economical, historical, views of the opponents of the Nazi-party.

Objectives:
Research must be conducted on background information about Nazi opponents and presented in class.  Students may choose various ways to present the information using any visual items such as Microsoft Power Point, posters, diagrams, etc.  It is not required to have the presentation or any visuals used in the presentation “auf Deutsch.”
After researching opponents, students may begin composing drafts and brainstorming outlines “auf Deutsch” to prepare their work.



III. Correspondence subscenario:
Correspondence should be among members of a resistance movement.

Objectives:
Research must be conducted on a resistance movement against the Nazi government and presented in class.  Students may choose various ways to present the information using any visual items such as Microsoft Power Point, posters, diagrams, etc.  It is not required to have the presentation or any visuals used in the presentation “auf Deutsch.”
After researching opponents, students may begin composing drafts and brainstorming outlines “auf Deutsch” to prepare their work.



IV. Newspaper subscenario:
A newspaper page should be constructed reflecting the views of Nazi-opponents on various historical events.

Objectives:
Research must be conducted on background information about Nazi opponent newspapers and presented in class.  Students may choose various ways to present the information using any visual items such as Microsoft Power Point, posters, diagrams, etc.  It is not required to have the presentation or any visuals used in the presentation “auf Deutsch.”
After researching opponents, students may begin composing drafts and brainstorming outlines “auf Deutsch” to prepare their work.



Tips
Creativity and accuracy are important throughout this scenario.
Research must be done before doing the sub scenarios.
Various drafts are required to show student’s progress at different stages of the project.
A presentation of your material and research must be presented in class.
Your work must be based (not copied) on original materials.
Remember to keep in mind that you are campaigning against Nazism.
Remember to use correct sentence structures, vocabulary, tenses, and grammar while writing “auf Deutsch.”


Grading
All brainstorming, drafts, and flyers must be “auf Deutsch” with an English translation.  Fifteen points will be deducted from a hundred point grading scale if work (excluding presentation  prior to making the flyers) is done in English only.
