Cell Division
There
are two types of cell divisions: mitosis and meiosis. The result of mitosis
is origination of two cells genetically identical with the parent cell.
Meiosis
is a division during which the recombination of genetic materialtakes place
and four haploid daughter cells gametes appear.

In the human body spermatozoons
and eggs are the result of meiosis which takes place in testicles (men) and
ovaries (women).

| meiosis,
daughter cells are haploid

Thanks to the reduction of the number of chromosomes after
fertilization the set is not doubled (4n, 8n, 16n
).

In
unicellular organisms mitosis is the means of reproduction.
In multicellular organisms, it is the means of tissue growth and maintenance.
