Human Body - Introduction

Just like all other living creatures man is built from cells. Billions of specialized cells of human body originate by mitotic divisions during first 9 months after fertilization of egg cell. Cells keep dividing throughout the whole life, so that we grow and continuous cell replacement takes place. After about 15 years human organism starts producing gametes, originated in meiosis haploid reproductive cell, that can give birth to a new life.

Information about the organism is kept in genes, which are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Genes together with the environment determine the look and function of each organism and genes are what is transmitted to the next generation.
