{iFairground Creative Writing Guide}

Hello!
Are you ready to write? First, we have come up with some guidelines about writing that you should read to help you write the best story possible...

1. Plan by creating a simple graphic organizer. You could put your character in a center circle, then create spokes with a few locations your character visits at a fair.

2.Think of complications/conflicts. You want your character to have adventures. Look at the spokes. What are some complications that could occur? For example, the character might run into an escaped animal or argue with a friend about sneaking on to a ride that he is too young use.

3. List some possible adjectives. Adjectives are descibing words, like soft, round, fat, tall, smelly, skinny, etc. They make a story more interesting, so be sure to use them when writing.

4. Use your senses. This guideline is often overlooked, but it is important. While writing, try to tell about something each one of your five senses (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell) picked up at the fair. For example, "The cotton candy tasted sweet on my tounge as the sugar melted. I could smell moist, juicy hot dogs on the grill." These two sentences used taste and smell. See if you can use all five senses in your story!

5. Stay on topic. Be sure to talk about an experience at a fair, or an experience on the way to the fair. These are made up stories, but don't get carried away with a cow that you may see on the way to the fair. Mention it, but then move on.

6. Look through the iFairground History section. There are many pictures and facts throughout the history section that will give you ideas for your story.

7. No inappropriate language, please! Keep your stories clean and free from swear words and expressions that ridicule others.

8. Be sure to use proper grammer. Use "ain'ts" and double negatives, like "don't not" only if you want to portray a character as uneducated. Write complete sentences and capitalize words at the beginning of a sentence, proper nouns, and other words that should be capitalized. Also, avoid run-on sentences.

9. Check your spelling. After you are done writing, read through your work and make sure there are no spelling errors. After all, this will be posted on the internet for others all over the world to read!

10. Have fun! Be free and express yourself (within the guidelines, of course). Remember that this is your own story and you can write it in your own style. It's up to you to make your writing fun!
