The roadrunner is a ground-dwelling cuckoo which prefers to run but will use flight to capture prey and avoid predators. Roadrunners are opportunistic carnivores which feed on small rodents, birds, eggs, reptiles, and insects.The name roadrunner comes from the bird's habit of racing down roads in front of moving vehicles and then darting to safety in the brush.
