Cobra
|
Genus:
Naja
Africa, Southern Asia, East Indies
Cobras use their deadly
poison in two ways. Some types bite their
victims with poisonous fangs in the front of
the upper jaw. Others also squirt the poison
at the eyes of the victim. The jugglers and
snake charmers of India usually use the cobra
because of its unusual hood and its habit of
rearing upright. They pretend to charm snakes
with music, but the snakes can hear only a
limited range of sounds and cannot hear the
music. When they are being "charmed," they
are only holding themselves on guard. They
would do the same thing without music.
