Power and Telephone plays a big part of human life. Humans have become so dependent on technology such as lights, phones, television and all other household appliances that power and telephone lines are necessary for the usage of these appliances. Power and telephone lines exist in electric and magnetic fields. These fields are two different fields yet they are so similar that it is difficult to see the differences. One way to tell the two fields apart is by a charge particle. If a charge particle is not moving it is in the electric field. If the charge particle is moving then it is in the magnetic field.

Power and telephone lines produce a magnetic field of 2 milliGauss and a frequency of 60 Hz while the Earth itself produces about 300 - 500 milliGauss. (MilliGauss is a metric term used to describe the length of these magnetic fields.) The human body does not protect itself from magnetic fields and our bodies can only take a certain frequency level from these waves. The waves from the power and telephone lines only hold a frequency of 60 Hz, which is low and therefore not harmful to the human body. Frequencies from waves such as ultra violet waves, on the other hand, are different. They are much higher in frequency and too much exposure can be extremely harmful to the human body.

Power and Telephone lines on the other hand, are low in frequency and not harmful to the human body. However many people say that people develop cancer from these waves but the facts show that it the magnetic field is so low it is impossible for cancer to develop. What causes cancer depends on the frequency of a wave. With the frequency of 60Hz it is too low to do any damage to the human body.
