Welcome

Welcome to our Thinkquest 2000 project "Syonanto Relived: The Japanese Occupation of Singapore". There are eight major sections in our web site: "Events", "Timeline", "Media" , "Journals", "Interviews", "Virtual Tour", "Simulations", and "Resources".

Navigate

When you go to the Contents page, you will see a brief description of each of these sections. When you move your mouse over the buttons and when you click the buttons , you are brought to the relevant sections in the website. You can also access each sections directly by returning to the previous page and clicking on the buttons. In the different sections, navigation buttons on the top of the page allows users to jump to another section within the site. In the Events section, we have designed a rollover timeline at the bottom of each page. When you roll your mouse over the timeline, you will see a short description of major events happening in the world which are related to World War Two. We hope that this will provide the visitor with a chronological framework to place the events happening in Singapore in relation to world events.

Design Metaphor

We have attempted to use the metaphor of a time-machine in our design of the site, so we hope that the visitor can embark on different journeys through different facets of this historical period and relive each poignant moment. We have tried to enhance the visitor's experience through the use of multimedia interaction, so the website can be bandwith consuming as Shockwave, Flash and Quicktime movies are used quite extensively. For sections like the Virtual Tour, we have provided a separate help page to guide users on Quicktime VR navigation.

The team hopes that our site can be an interesting, interactive and collaborative learning tool for students worldwide. Close this browser window to return to the main page and continue on your journey.
