  • Scroll down to the remote control on the left hand side of the page.
  • Click on Syonan and view the information on the daily life of the civilians in Singapore during the Japanese Occupation, including audio and video resources.

    • Students should be able to describe the hardships undergone by the civilians in Japanese-occupied Singapore from the first person point of view.
    • Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of these hardships and their impact on the lives of the people.
    • Students should be able to describe the reasons for and the consequences of the Sook Ching Operation.
  • Complete the task Greetings From Syonan-to. In pairs, imagine that you are a teenager who lived through the Japanese Occupation of Singapore. Write a postcard to a friend living in Penang, informing her about the recent hardships that your family had to undergo when your father was taken away during the Sook Ching Operation.
  • Hand in the postcards at the end of the lesson.
