Sun-Bathing

You may think that sun-bathing is enjoyable, but not to the people who lived through the Japanese Occupation.

Men, women and children alike endured this torture. The person being tortured was make to kneel in the sun for long hours or until the sun set. Due to the long exposure to the sun, the person who underwent this treatment would see his skin starting to peel.

Whipping

Whipping was also another favourite method the Japanese officials used to torture the civilians or the suspects. The suspect would be tied up and the Japanese official would whip the suspect. The suspect could not retaliate, could only howl in pain. Scars were also left on the person due to the whippings.

Boiling

The person being tortured was tied up and put into a large pot of boiling water to be 'cooked'. The Japanese soldiers would then boil the water gradually. If the person passed out, he would then be taken out of the water and revived. If he confessed, all torture would end. If not, he would be put back into the pot and continued to be boiled until he confessed or died.

Tearing the Nails

To make a suspect confess, the Japanese would use a clip to tear out the suspects' nails. The torture would only end when all the nails of the ten fingers were torn out. The pain was unbearable.
