8 Dec 1941
It
is now the 8th of December in the year nineteen hundred and forty one; the
day the war destroyed my life and all those whom I knew. The Japs were quick
and fast, they stormed the beaches of Northern Malaya and started massacring
all the villages through out the northern part of Malaya. When I heard the
news I dismissed the claim as I had given the men the night off and most of
them were drunk to the head. Then when I heard the shots fired nearby it was
too late they had come creeping silently through the thick Malaya jungles
stealing from tree to tree with the noise of a cat. They overcame my camp
too fast but not fast enough to stop me and 4 of the other soldiers from escaping.
This close call helped to slow the japs down but not stop them. Through the
night we managed to get thought the jungle and into a small town called Jitra
where we alerted the rest of the forces to get ready for an attack .
