Learning Activity: discuss World Hunger
After reading through the information in the section, discuss
with your parents, friends, classmates or teachers, or just think
on your own:
-
do you believe that the right to food is a basic right of every
human being? why?
- do you think the developed nations of the world believe in the
sanctity of this right?
-
with agricultural produce still producing surpluses, why do you
think some places are still prone to famine (eg. Africa)?
-
apart from aid, what other ways of elminating poverty are there?
- are these methods udes often enough? why?
-
farmers are often the poorest people in a country, do you think
they should be allowed to sell their produce at higher prices
to support themselves and their families?
-
at certain points in history, hunger has been used as a political
tool (hunger strikes, economic blockades etc.). Do you think this
is justified? Can starving people be acceptable under certain
circumstances?
