The Penobscots (it means Rocky "Earth" or "it Flows on the Rocks", alluding to a fall that is found in the countries of their village of Old Town, in the Maine, to few miles above Bangor) they are a tribe of Indians of America, belonging to the group linguistic algonchino, once appropriated in the actual New England. They belonged to the confederation Abnaki, that understood, besides the Penobscots, the Maliseets and the Passamaquoddies. They were hunters, fishermen and collectors seminomadi. They built canoes, fishing nets (said " wampums "), carved pipes and complicated embroideries of beads and stings. They were a pacific and hospitable people. The around 500 Penobscots lives in a reserve that extends today for around 4.500 acrid on Indian Island, Old Town and Maine.
