OJIBWA

The Ojibwas (or Chippewa, as I/you/they have called improperly from the white), they are a tribe of Indians of America belonging to the group linguistic algonchino, once appropriated in the today's State in the Michigan and on the northern coasts of the Superior Lake and the lake Huron. They were hunters, collectors of wild rice, their principal food and growers of corn. The Ojibwas gave a lot of importance to the wizards, because you/they could found the secret societies. The Ojibwas used to engrave on barks of tree representative paintings the important facts, the ceremonies from them practise and the deeds of their cultural hero, Manabozho (Great Rabbit). they Became known in Europe thanks to some writings and stories of their heads, translated in English from the American newspapers between 1860 and 1875. During the Indian wars you/they had allied some French and they swapped with them skins of beaver and other animals against fire weapons that they used for pushing the Siouxes toward West. The Ojibwas took part to the insurrection of Pontiac, and beginning from 1851 the white farmers pushed them beyond of the Mississippi. Currently the around 80.000 survivors lives in the reserves of States of the Minnesota, of the Wisconsin, of the Dakota, of the Michigan, of Canada.
