The Maliseets (it derives from the words Micmac malisti, "uncertain parlatories" and mahnesheets, "languages lante") they are a tribe of Indians of America belonging to the group linguistic algonchino. The Maliseets belonged to the confederation Abnaki, that understood, besides the Maliseets, the Passamaquoddies and the Penobscots. From a linguistic point of view you/they had allied to the Passamaquoddies tightly. Champlain met them for the first time in 1604 and wrote:
"When we had sat, before beginning any discourse we began to smoke, as it was them habit. They gave us of the game and of the meat of fallow deer. For that whole day and the following night they continued to sing, to dance and to make party actually to that the dawn didn't arrive. we Wore suits of skins of beaver."In 1904 the Maliseets had reduced to around 800 individuals that lived in the provincies of the New Brunswick and the Quebec in Canada.
