The Dakotas (it means allied, but the Ojibwas Siouxes called them, hostile) they are a tribe of Indians of America, belonging to the family linguistic sioux, once appropriated in the regions to north of the Mississippi and in the XVII sec. migrated in the basin of the tall Mississippi because of the pressures of the Ojibwas. They constituted a federation of tribe, of which the most important was the Santees, the Yanktons and the Tetons. They were nomadic hunters, culturally a great deal evolved, they used a writing pittografica on skins and they possessed an oral literature and a music very expressive; between their heads more known they are from to remember: Sitting Bull (Taurus Seduto), Crazy Horse (Crazy " Horse "), Hand-Afraid-of-His-Horse ("Man that fears his/her horse"). Currently I/you/they have remained around 40.000 individuals, whose great part lives in numerous reserves in the North and South Dakota, in Montana and in Nebraska.
