Capybara (Hydorchaeris hydrochaeris)
As the largest rodent in the world, the capybara can grow to 1.25m and weigh 65kg. The capybara is semi-aquatic in nature and its appearance resembles a large guinea pig. Its has webbed feet, suitable for swimming.
The capybaras feed on aquatic plants. They live in families of about 6 members in all. It is a main prey to many animals in the Amazon. When one capybara senses danger, it makes a warning noise to its fellow capybaras. Together, they will escape into the water and quickly swim away.
