BRABANT FIGHTS AGAINST WATER
Markiezaatskade

The Markiezaatskade
The Markiezaatskade
is a secondary flood barrier constructed as a fence around the Markiezaat of
Bergen op Zoom. By building 4
kilometres long dike between Zuid-Beveland [east of the Kreekraksluizen) and the
Molenplaat near Bergen op Zoom. This flood barrier forms part of the
Compartimenteringswerken. This embankment was constructed to facilitate the
construction of the Oesterdam and to avoid unacceptable high-speed currents
during the construction of the barrier in the Schelde-Rijnverbinding.
The
Markiezaatskade consists from North to South of a 1900 meters long lower
southerly barrier, a northern barrier and a high barrier with a length of 1100
meters West of the Molenplaat. Finally a causeway with the southern side of the
Molenplaat.
On
December 23rd 1980 tenders were send out to various contractors for the
construction of the western part of the Markiezaatskade.

A part of the dam is destroyed by a storm so they had to make it.
On the 30th of March 1983 the construction is ready!!!!!
Nice
