The greenhouse effect

Or planet earth is just like an island in the probably empty space.

A small planet alone in a big and empty space.

The circumstances are perfect for animals, plants and of course for people to live. There are seas, deserts and rainforests. For everyone there is a place on this planet.

Earth has an atmosphere. This is a thin layer that consists of the gasses nitrogen and oxide. The atmosphere is located around the earth at a height of 700 kilometer.

We can live because earth has an atmosphere. The atmosphere is keeping the earth warm enough for everyone and everything on earth and it is controlling the weather on earth too.

The temperature on earth can be very cold [ north and south Pole ] but it can also be very hot [ the Gobi desert and the Sahara desert ]. Lifeforms on earth have to adjust themselves to the place where they live so in every place on earth there can be life.

In every place on earth there is live.

The sun is warming up the earth with sunbeams [ also called solar energy]. If the sunbeams hit the atmosphere the sunbeams will be reflected back into space. A small part of the sunbeams is getting absorbed by the atmosphere. The rest that are going through the atmosphere will warm up earth.

But if there is CO2 in the air a smaller part will be reflected back into space. And that part is responsible for the greenhouse effect.

So the atmosphere is letting the sunbeams through but the atmosphere is also keeping the warmth that earth is trying to reflect back to space. This looks very much like a greenhouse and the glass in the greenhouse can be compared to the atmosphere. The greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere normally would keep the temperatures at a certain average on earth. But if too many of those gasses enter the air the atmosphere will keep more and more warmth on earth.
