BRABANT FIGHTS AGAINST WATER
NATIONAL
PARK THE BIESBOSCH
In
1969 the Vokerak is closed and in 1970 the Haringvliet is also closed.
This
has big consequences for the Brabantse Biesbosch.
The
tides disappear and therefore the reed cutters and the low willow-ground workers
have
to leave the Biesbosch.
A
positive thing about losing the tides however is the increasing accessibility of
the
Biesbosch and an organization
is set up:
Het natuur en recreatieschap nationaal park de Biesbosch.
Working
side by side with Staatsbosbeheer [owner of the ground] this organization
made
a nature and recreation park out of the Biesbosch.
They
also set up rules for people who want to visit the Biesbosch.
One
of those rules is a maximum speed for boats to protect the river banks.
But
the organization
also reintroduced the beaver with success so every one can now see
beavers
in the Biesbosch

There
is also an information center build in Drimmelen where you can learn about
everything
that lives in the Biesbosch.
There
is another museum build in Werkendam,
with
more attention paid to the cultural history of the Biesbosch.
You
can also hire canoes and you can make a boat trip in the Biesbosch.
But
people don't actively promote the Biesbosch because they
want
to keep the silence in the Biesbosch.

you want more information about the Biesbosch you can write a letter to:
