            The Biesbosch

              

The Brabantse Biesbosch nowadays is a beautiful nature revere and it is also a recreation area for everyone. Of course this area has a history. What happened in the last centuries and who are the people who live in the Biesbosch?? How was this area originated. One thing is for sure, more than 600 years ago there were villages and towns where the water is now.    

 

 

 

The history

National park the Biesbosch

The Biesbosch is now a nature reserve. That means that the Biesbosch is a protected area. The Biesbosch is also a recreation park. The second world war

During the Second World War the Biesbosch played an important part in transporting goods from occupied Holland to free Holland. To this purpose special routes better known as crossings, were found. The water reservoirs 

The Biesbosch is not only a recreation park and a nature park but also an area where drinking water is extracted from the ground for a big part of the Randstad (Hollands most crowded residential area).
