                                                  The Zandkreekdam.

The closing of the Zandkreek begins with a excavation in the front of the lock. It's long 140 meter and 20 meter broad. This is a robust dimension with 's is needful for the future, because the Veerse meer is the back door for shipping from Vlissingen to rest of the country.

The building of the connection weir from North Beverland is successfully and in 1959 the creek of sand is 300 meter marrow.

But the shipping is very important and the lock must be ready, than the creek can be closed.

The lock is ready and they  start with total closing of the sand creek. Before the closing, they had to build first threshold in the water where the caissons can stand up. For the building of this thresholds they make use of a new hydraulic engineer with means that asphalt is used in case of sink and willow wood.

On the left side the sluice and on the right side the weir.

The last part of the closing from the Zandkreekdam is done with caissons who al within 4 days are scuttled on the threshold.

On 5 may 1960 is it so far....

At 2:22 precisely the closing of the creek is a fact. A historic moment for the habitants of North Beveland, because of the closing  they aren't dependent of the ferry boat any more. The closing is also a historic moment for Rijkswaterstaat. This is the first of the three weirs as a part of the three islands plan.
