-The traditional sink part of willow wood are replaced by nylon and cast asphalt. This because and better an longer ability  below the water.  

The latest flood barrier is the Measlandkering. The flood barrier in the New waterway   is build  in 1997. It works only when there is a storm with hurricane power. With this flood barrier they want to prevent  a water level of 3m N.A.P. The 2 curved steel wall with keeps the water out are 325m long and 22m high. The reason of building this flood barrier is because the many historic places where they can't built a dike around.

" Zeeland is safe" this what Queen Beatrix told by the opening of the flood barrier in the Oosterschelde. The fight seems to be won.

But is the fight won for ever ??

Sure is that the bottom of Holland is going down with 1 m each century, unless we stop with carry of water besides the rising of the lost but the biggest evidences that we didn’t win yet are the floods of 1993 and 1995.

In 1995 200000 people are evacuated. Must we see the almost disaster as a foretaste of the future of Holland.

Nobody knows.

Holland seems safe , but the fight against the water goes on.
