                                              The philipsdam.

The Philipsdam is a secondary barrier between the Grevelingendam and Sint Philipsland to close the Krammer and Volkerak. The dam forms together with the Oesterdam and the  markiezaatskade  part of the Compartimenteringswerken.

As usual they start with the construction of a work dock (ca. 96hA) and the dam  Philipsdam for the building of the Krammersluizen.(Locks) Next they build the dam  Slaak and after that they closed the gates in the Slaak and Krammer. In the work dock the Krammer lock were positioned. This is a very special lock with a sea/fresh water separation system.

This is  the special lock.

Firts of all in the middle of the Krammer a work island was constructed (at the location of the "Plaat van Vliet" At this work island a construction siet was digged out to build the actual locks.

The works started in November 1976 the final delivery of the works was in June 1978. The closure of the opening in the  Slaak started on 7 September 1986 and on 17 April 1987 the  Krammer is closed.

After the completion of the work island and the excavation in October 1978 they start ed the construction of  two locks for the inland navigation and a lock for pleasure craft.. On 20 October. 1983 the locks complex is ready at last !

On the 2nd of February 1987 the official opening took place

Due to the popularity of pleasure craft a second lock for this purpose had to be constructed which was completed in June 1994.
