Causes of the floods

After the water logging of 1995 the government of the Netherlands had to do something to prevent such disaster in the future. But before you can prevent it you must know what the causes are. 1999: The foreland of Woudrichem is then a nature park.

One of the causes is the greenhouse effect. But what is the greenhouse effect?? And does it exist?? And if it exists what can we do about it?? To all these questions and more questions you can find the answer if you click on the photo with one of the causes of the floods.

By high water the foreland plays an important part, because it "stores" the water when the river is overflowed. Today people build houses in the foreland and those houses must be protected against water with dikes. And so the river gets less and less space, so it will much more easily flood its banks. The buildings in the foreland therefore, are one of the causes of the floods. What does the government do about it?? Click on the photo and see what it does.

In Woudrichem they didn't build houses in the foreland. It is now even a nature park where you can walk  alone or with your dog. Because it is so beautiful I sometimes take my dog for a walk in the foreland and when I am going to walk with my dog I take my camera with me. Do you want to see my pictures??
