Lightspan.com - Where learning clicksLightspan.com

is an extraordinary educational resource that includes infomation for teachers, students and parents. Within the Lightspan site you will also find a section called the Global Schoolhouse. The Gobal Shoolhouse contains a wealth of material on collaborative projects. Here you will find examples of projects completed for CyberFair 2000. These projects are fine examples of how to make a difference within a community while at the same time completing work for school that has a real purpose.

Achievers Against the Odds: .

The Rotary Districts in Victoria and the Department of Education, Employment and Training (DEET) have worked together on this project. It identifies those qualities that enable individual Australians to overcome adversity and achieve success, and to communicate such qualities to young people.
The intended audience in the Year 2000 is Year 7 students. By giving students the opportunity to reflect upon those personal qualities needed to overcome obstacles, they may confront in their daily lives, it is hoped that the range of personal and emotional difficulties often associated with adolescence will be seen in a more positive and constructive perspective. Students should also recognise that they can be achievers as well.

While there is an Australian focus, there is a section for teachers with a number of lesson plans that could be used in any country.
