Favourite Hero: Lola Falana
Comments: While I admire traditional heros such as Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, and George Washington, the one who comes to my mind first is Lola Falana, a beautiful young African American entertainer struck with MS at the height of her career. First she stood up against pressures against her in Las Vegas and maintained her integrity and right to work. Second, she accepted who she was and was proud. I remmeber her talking about how she tried in vain to reduce the size of her fanny--and finally decided to treat it as an asset rather than a liability! She wrote the song and included it in her show "If you've got big buns--sticky 'em out!" And then it seemed so unfair for her to be stricken with MS, but she depended on her faith in God not only to give strength to herself but to try to help others mainitain that sense of positiveness no matter what life deals us. She has never been touted as a great hero--but she is my role model for what a woman and a person can do all by themselves to impact the lives of others--no marches, no movements, just one on one ministering.

Comments: Dreams are there for us to reach. Make mistakes and learn from them. Laugh at yourself and keep moving forward. Don't let those mistakes define who you are. Trust that the Universe has something in mind for each and every one of us. Just remember to hold on tight, as the ride can often times get very bumpy. Heroes had the ability to hold on tight. We can all learn from their strength. Your Web site is giving us the power we all need to hang on. Thank you for your message. It's being heard loud and clear.
