Fusion
Australia is a Christian community-based organisation that began in Australia
over 30 years ago. It began as a youth organisation and is now highly
regarded as a youth, family, and community organisation.
How
is it Organised?
It
has over 200 full-time volunteer workers, who are highly regarded by both
government and private agencies. There are a number of full time workers
who operate out of a number of centres around the country. There are also
125 associate groups with volunteer workers who are linked to these. As
well as housing services for homeless people, the organisation provides
employment programs, trips, support groups and a host of other programs
designed to support young people.
One
of the things that has made Fusion so effective has been the partnership
developed with other groups in the community as well as the grass roots
programs that are run. This means that they work directly in areas where
help is needed.
The
importance of Volunteers:
Like
other similar organisations, Fusion manages to provide effective programs
with a minimal budget. This is made possible by the enormous amount of
goodwill that is offered through goods and volunteer services.
Fundraising:
There
are also a number of fundraising strategies that are most effective. One
of these is called Wombat Boutiques. Quality clothing is gathered some
from of the wealthier suburbs around town. It is then sold at reasonable
prices - not only offering individuals a source of reasonably priced clothing,
but also raising money for other programs at the same time.
The
type of fundraising activity will vary depending on the area that the
organisation is based in. In the long run, the organisation would rather
spend their time running programs rather than spending too much time raising
funds. Still, when the programs and the fundraising activities work together,
it is the best of both worlds.
