After a long and hard day of work, many villagers gather around crackling bonfires under the beautiful night sky of Thailand to endlessly talk and sing. There may be a rhyming song contest and much friendly banter between the old and the young, as individuals try to outdo each other in composing choruses with familiar themes. Musicians playing bamboo flutes, reed instruments, hand cymbals, and drums accompany these dueling singers, providing both inspiration and humor to the night's festivity. Among the jubilant singers sits a small child who peers through the flaming sparks of the fire, into the luminous faces of her elders. A seed of desire has been planted this night in the heart of the little Thai child who will from henceforth strive to learn and bring life to the ancient melodies of her people. With the guidance of a learned teacher in the art of Thai music, the small child constantly plays and sings with nothing else to rely upon but her memory. It is only through hard work that this little child will gain her technical experience and practical knowledge that will someday carry him/her to satisfying her childhood desire that was born on a night of beauty and merriment.
