The sting family instruments are named for the gut, wire, or nylon cords that are stretched over them.  Striking, bowing, plucking, or strumming the strings produce musical tones or chords.  These sounds are then amplified acoustically, or electronically.  Continue on with an instrument to your left, to explore the details of each string instrument.
