Bass Guitar and Variations
Bass guitar: Bass guitars are electric
guitars who play the bass melodies in a band. They have thicker strings and are
lower in pitch. They were designed to provide double bass players with a
portable, fretted instrument that they could transport easily and amplify. It
was invented by the American, Leo Fender, and first marketed around 1951.
Fretless bass guitar: This bass guitar is
played very similar to a double bass, because it (obviously) has no frets. This
allows sliding and gives the musician the abilities of the double bass, and the
bass guitar.
Steinberger bass guitar: Aside from being
incredibly strange looking, this bass has a very different sound. It’s body is
not wood, but rather a dense plastic. This gives the instrument a clear and hard
tone.
