Hacking is defined as the intrusion of any unauthorized user through a network into a certain person's computer. This process is usually done by either exploiting a bug in software, which the victim is using, or installing viruses (Trojans) which will then created a loophole in the targeted system. The reasons for this may vary, from gaining top-secret information to simply scaring the life out of the victim. Hacking is a criminal offence punishable by law.
Many popular ways of hacking include using Back Orifice, and Netbus, both Trojan viruses that open a certain port into the target computer for the controller to connect. The controller of the computer is able to download user files, gain registry keys, take snapshots of his screen, control and see the keys he types, use his mouse, send him messages, freeze his computer, and other such malicious acts. Another virus that is similar and uses the same method is, which is more user-friendly (on the hacker's side). Another method of hacking is gaining access to a system if it has a server or any bugs installed on it. The hacker would come up with random passwords until given remote administration access on the victim's computer server (such as ftp server or http server), then use it to access the user's files. In both cases of hacking, the user may, and can be, totally unaware of this, unless the hacker chooses to reveal himself.
Hacking is mostly easily detectable; For the hacker to be able to control or get anything, he must connect, and in doing so the IP Address of the controller is able to be taken down with certain tracking software. This Address can be traced back to his computer.
