Hi.. I am Weiyang from the
Chinese High School in Singapore. This year is the first time I have participated in
Thinkquest and also the first time I did such a "large scale" project, thus I am
very new to it, and at first I was at a lost on what to do. But as things got going, I
picked them up slowly. I think one person that I ought to thank is CheeYong. He really was
a real good "teacher". He helped me pick up the basics and told me what I could
do and what I should not do.
Working with Chee Yong and Weishu was really
fun, as we never fail to cheer each other up and help one another when we got stuck at
certain points of the whole entire project. Though we had some minor disputes and
problems, we were able to solve it very quickly and carry on the project with much
enthusiasm.
One incident that nearly caused us to stop working on the project was when our coaches
suddenly abandoned us, leaving us, and we did not know what to do at that moment, we did
not know why they left us. Was it because our project have no potential or whatever, we do
not know. But we were able to get ourselves together, got a new coach and continued
working on the project although we had much technical difficulties.
How we worked on the project was through the internet. We got together on the net and
brainstormed on the content we would include in our site. Finally we came up with an
outline. And also a very meaningful title for our site, I-Light. The "I" stands
for interactivity and informative, and light basically stands for our topic which we are
doing, Light. We then proceeded to do research. While we were doing our research, we also
tried to come out with a nice design, and we actually came up with over fourteen designs,
but none of the designs actually could satisfy all three of us. Finally we came up with
the current design which we think was nice. At the later part of the project, we started
to phone each other as we found that the internet restricted our expression. After many
many months of toiling, we finally completed the project which you now see, this is the
result of our hardwork.
Chee Yong being the leader, would assign us the work we have to do, and give us a
deadline, then after he sent him the completed sections, he would then compile it. During
the entire course of the project, I picked up many valuable skills, like Flash, and much
of the research skills. But one skill which I regretted not having enough time to learn is
CGI. And because I did not know CGI, we had many difficulties in making the site more
interactive. Also, I have learnt to manage my time well to squeeze more time out of my
busy school life to work on this project, but I think, the one who sacrificed the most
would be CheeYong, as he is having his O Levels' this year, and yet he is trying his very
best to do his very best.
After this year, we might be able to work together, we might not. It was really enjoyable
working with Cheeyong and Weishu.
