Egypt is a very important link geographically to India, Asia, Singapore and China by water. This is because of the Suez Canal which connected the Red Sea to Mediterranean Sea. It was also a Britain colony. Therefore, it was vital for Britain to defend Egypt to prevent Germany from entering Africa and Asia to combine forces with Japan.
