Exploding Cubes - US chemists have synthesised a new type of explosive that could be more powerful than the most potent non-nuclear compound known. The compound was made by Philip Eaton and Mao-Xi Zhang at the University of Chicago by building on the tiniest of building blocks - the hydrocarbon cubane.

Leaders from HGP (Human Genome Project) along with Celera Genomics announced that they have deciphered the human genome. President Clinton congratulated the scientists for this historic achievement. HGP, a public funded project, began in 1990, and has involved roughly 1,000 scientists from the U.S., the U.K., Japan, France, and China.
