There are different ways of holding the guitar depending upon which guitar your playing. If you are playing a classical guitar, the guitar should be positioned over your left leg (Note: Everything is geared for a right handed person, if you are left handed you must have a different guitar and everything in the techniques section needs to be reversed, right is left and left is right). If you are playing an acoustic or electric, then position the guitar over your right leg.

Holding the Pick

There are many ways to hold the pick, however there is one position most preferred by players and instructors. Position the pick between your index finger and thumb so that the point of the pick face toward the floor when you hold your hand straight out. The pick should make a 90° angle with your thumb.
